July 18, 2005. I just noticed that the ezBoard message board that I had set up for this web site had been deleted. Since restoration of the deleted conference is only available to subscribers to their service, and since the activity was relatively light, I not planning on looking for another message board. If you do think a message board is worth while, or you have a message board that you like, let me know and I may promote it here. As always you can contact me here.

May 1, 2001. I started working on this page. :-)

KING CRIMSON
INTRO:
[Top (page index)] [Up] [Down] [Bottom (site index)]

In November 1968, Giles, Giles and Fripp decided to change their musical style and change some of their personnel. The personnel they ended up with were all musicially capable, although none had been in a big name band previously.

King Crimson, a progressive rock band that started in England in the late 1960s. The original band only lasted just less than a year. Their unique sound, instrumentation (including mellotron), songs, singer, ... instantly made them recoginzable. While the original band only made one studio album before breaking up, That album is well worth checking out. And for the completist, the 4CD set, Epitaph, contains BBC radio performances as well as some partial shows, and some fairly complete shows. Proof that the sound they were creating in the studio, they were able to create on stage as well.

Greg Lake, went on to join Emerson, Lake and Palmer, which became hughly successful. While Greg Lake did provide some vocals for the second King Crimson album In The Wake Of Poseidon, his decision to leave the band was made after discussions with Keith Emerson (of Nice) at their recent Fillmore West shows.

Ian McDonald, went on to join Foreigner, which also became a major commercial success.

Robert Fripp kept the name of King Crimson, and with a changing group of personnel and musical styles, continues to perform as King Crimson (as well as League of Gentlemen, League of Crafty Guitarists, Robert Fripp, ...)

Comments and corrections would be appreciated.

And of course, any audio-video-print additions to my collection would be appreciated.

I am also interested in getting wider exposure for this site. So links from your site to mine would be appreciated. And if you know of any sites that allow/encourage submission, I would also appreciate knowing about them as well.

Do you have any articles, books, albums, tapes, CDs, ... on this band that you would like reviewed and / or integrated into this page?

Do you have any other band that you would like to see a page for on this site?

Other Material

I have seen a show that is sometimes listed as September 11, 1969 (or November 7) Victoria Ballroom, Chesterfield. If this is the Chesterfield show, it was September 7, 1969. If not, ... The copy of the tour bookings included with the Epitaph box set, shows that September 11, 1969 as being a free day. It also shows that the band was on tour in America November 7, 1969.

I have seen the Plumpton Festival incorrectly listed as September 8, 1969. The copy of the article in the Epitaph box set mentions the show is August 9, 1969.

I have also seen a listing for 1969 studio jams, and hopefully I will be able to get a copy some day and figure out if it is just BBC material, or something even more interesting.

Back in October 1999 I put up links to CD-Now so that visitors could easily link to the related band pages and instantly see which items were still in print/available for purchase. CD-Now no longer has that option. For the moment I am putting in Amazon.com search boxes. Amazon.com doesn't easily allow for links to individual band pages in the same way that CD-Now used to. So, instead of me being able to create direct links, I have put up the Amazon.com search box instead. So you can still go to a page with the various bands products, buy you now need to go through a search box.

As always, let me know what you think.
